Silver Floral Serving Plates for Sale in the UK

Prices in these examples range from around £12 to £32, with some sets and larger pieces differing considerably in size and format. Compare dimensions, weight and the condition of the plating, especially around rims, handles and raised decoration. Check seller photographs and descriptions for dents, scratches, worn areas, repairs, maker’s marks and whether any tongs or lids shown are included.

What to Look For

Check whether the listing is for silver plate or solid silver, and look for clear photographs of any marks, stamps or maker’s details. Inspect the plating around rims, handles, raised decoration and the underside, where rubbing, flaking, discolouration or base-metal showing through may be more noticeable. Floral borders and pierced sections can collect tarnish and be difficult to clean. Confirm the plate’s diameter or length, weight and whether it is suitable for food use. For lidded dishes, check that the lid fits securely and any handles, feet or liners are present. Ask about dents, bends, repairs, loose components and the proposed packaging and delivery method.

Buying Tips

Before buying, compare like with like: a handled tray, shallow bowl, lidded dish and flat plate may serve different purposes despite similar descriptions. Check measurements, weight and whether prices cover one piece or a set. Study photographs for plate loss, scratches, dents, bent rims, worn decoration and residue, and read the description for repairs or missing parts. Confirm the seller’s returns policy and packaging arrangements, as pierced edges and handles can be vulnerable in transit.
