Under the circumstances of death in the family or friends, it may be difficult to consider pragmatic matters such as the administration issues relating to the estate and property of the deceased. Nevertheless, it is important to handle and resolve these issues as quickly and accurately as possible, in order to ensure that all the correct beneficiaries receive their full financial entitlements. This is where probate valuation comes into play.

Essentially, the purpose of the valuation is to ascertain the total value of the assets held in the estate.

There are a number of reasons why this is important. In the first instance, a probate valuation will be required to show whether or not Inheritance Tax (IHT) is due on the estate and, if so, how much will be charged. This is a vital step in the process, as it will directly impact the eventual sums to be passed on to the beneficiaries. Furthermore, according to probate law executors are likely to find that their powers of administration are limited until a percentage of any IHT owing has been paid. As such, it is important that probate valuation occurs quickly in order to ensure that the rest of the probate process can continue.

Foxtons Antique House Clearance Service

Here are four common scenarios:

Scenario 1. If the contents of the house to be cleared have no antiques or collectables with resale value, then we suggest you use a reputable, licensed & insured house clearance company like Abacus.

Scenario 2. Some of the house contents may have resale value. Common items with resale value include antiques, precious metals, jewellery, collectables and artwork. We'll give you an allowance for these and deduct it against the cost of the clearance.

Scenario 3. If the majority of your household items are valuable and this value exceeds the clearance costs, we’ll give you the difference (either in cash or cheque).

Scenario 4. And finally, where the contents of your property have been valued for probate, this value can also be deducted from the cost of your house clearance. No matter which service you need, we can help.

Step 2. If your antiques are of interest to us, we will then arrange a suitable time & date for an evaluation meeting. On the agreed day, we will evaluate your antique items and make you a no obligation proposal to match or better your previous offers - guaranteed.

Step 3. Once a price has been negotiated, we will pay you by whichever payment option is most convenient and collect the items on the day.
